Pomai Miyata, M.S., MGCP, CGT is a Sports Performance Consultant that specializes in helping athletes who are stuck, under-performing, or coming back from injury, to overcome their sports blocks, fears, and frustrations.
She uses proven breakthrough methods that tackle specific or repetitive performance problems to quickly get athletes unstuck, out of slumps and back on track so that they can practice and perform at their best.
Coach Pomai works across all sports with competitive athletes of every skill level, from Elite International to junior competitive, and athletes of all ages from youth to Masters.
She is best known for her work with Figure Skaters, and has also worked with athletes in gymnastics, cheer, diving, aerials, swimming, and equestrian, and has even worked with artists and musicians.
Coach Pomai works with athletes worldwide in one on one sessions online (Zoom or WhatsApp), and has presented workshops for athletes, coaches and parents internationally. She has appeared in Professional Skater Magazine and on ClubEPam (Latin America).
Coach Pomai has helped hundreds of athletes deal with fears and blocks, take their game to the next level and truly believe in themselves over her thirty years in the sports field. Her experience comes from wearing many hats. She is a parent of a competitive skater, and has worked behind the scenes in the world of figure skating. This combined with her early experience as a frustrated multi-sport competitive athlete, fuels her drive to provide real solutions to sports performance problems, not just surface strategies.
Coach Pomai is a patient teacher who connects with athletes using humor and real life examples for learning that sticks. She meets you where you are, and customizes the training to your needs. She will go beyond “just going through the motions” and is fully invested in your personal journey.
She is dedicated to help reshape the world of sports into an environment where athletes, coaches and parents can have fulfilling, life shaping experiences that enhance their personal development.
To educate athletes: each athlete deserves to develop into a healthy, successful individual with an unshakable belief in themself. To become someone who can thrive in success, failure, and adversity.
To facilitate and educate coaches and parents: to provide a safe environment in which athletes can learn how to deal with success, make mistakes and learn from their failures without shame or blame.
Coach Pomai is trained by Dr. Alan Goldberg, an internationally-known expert in peak sports performance who has over 34 years of experience in the field.
Resources
One part of being the best in your sport are your physical abilities. This includes your speed, strength, technical skill, experience, and everything else you need to master your sport.
Then there is the other part; a crucial skill that will set you apart from the rest. Your ability to excel, to “bring it” when it counts will rely on whether you have developed your MENTAL TOUGHNESS.
Even the most physically capable athletes will underachieve if they lack self confidence or are unable to handle the pressure of competition. If they focus on the wrong things, or get stuck on mistakes or set-backs, it doesn’t matter how prepared or how skillful they are, they will not have a chance to tap in to these skills.
Mental toughness trains your mind at the same time as you train your body, so that you can easily concentrate on the right things, handle nerves, fears, slumps, comparisons, and overcome adversity in any situation.
A mentally tough athlete is resilient to pressure and failures. Between athletes of equal athletic skills, the athlete with Mental Toughness will come out on top.
What Athletes Want to Know
Why do I get so nervous before a performance or a tough skill in practice?
How come I lost (or suddenly have trouble with) a skill I’ve had for years?
Why am I afraid to do skills that I used to be able to do?
I’m injured and I’m worried. Is there anything I can do that will help?
